Functional Lab Tests VS Traditional Lab Tests
Functional medicine testing and traditional medicine blood work serve different purposes and are interpreted in distinct ways.
Functional medicine testing in Las Vegas NV aims to identify subtle imbalances and dysfunctions in the body before they become chronic diseases. It focuses on examining biomarkers related to organ function, metabolism, and nutrient levels, with the goal of understanding the root causes of symptoms and optimizing overall health.
In contrast, traditional medicine testing is primarily used to diagnose and manage existing diseases. It focuses on detecting abnormalities that match specific diagnostic criteria, such as diabetes, high cholesterol, or infections. Results are compared to standardized reference ranges to identify significant deviations that indicate the presence of a particular condition. Traditional testing is disease-oriented and centers on diagnosing conditions based on these established reference points.

Muscle Testing In Las Vegas NV
Muscle testing, also known as applied kinesiology, is a non-invasive diagnostic technique used to assess the function and health of various body systems through muscle strength and response. The core idea is that changes in muscle strength can reflect underlying issues or imbalances in the body.
Muscle Testing works through:
- Identifying Imbalances:
- Nutritional Deficiencies: Muscle testing can help identify potential deficiencies by assessing how the body responds to different nutrients or supplements.
- Toxicity: It can detect the body's reaction to toxins or allergens by evaluating muscle strength in response to exposure.
- Assessing Organ Function:
- Muscle testing can be used to gauge the health of specific organs or systems by correlating muscle responses with corresponding body parts or functions.
- Customized Treatment Plans:
- Based on muscle test results, we can develop personalized treatment plans that address identified imbalances. This might include dietary adjustments, supplementation, or other therapeutic interventions.
Frequently Asked Questions
What types of lab tests are required?
- Depending on the type of test, the samples required are blood, saliva, urine or stool. Almost all tests are completed by the client through easy test kits that are self-administered in the comfort of your own home. If there is any blood tests requires, dependent on the test, a patient will be sent to an appropriate facility, or a traveling phlebotomist will be utilized.
How long does it take to get the lab results?
- The results of your lab test(s) will be sent to Root Cause Resolution 2 to 4 weeks after mailing your specimens to the lab. After evaluation, we will contact you to schedule a follow-up appointment to review your results with David Light, D.C. C.F.M.P. and he will recommend a wellness protocol.
Can I order my own test kits through the laboratories or can my regular doctor order the lab tests for me?
- Our authorized laboratories are only able to sell test kits to licensed practitioners. David Light, D.C. C.F.M.P. uses specific lab tests from small lab companies that exclusively offer functional medicine tests. Larger national labs and local hospital-based labs are not helpful for these types of highly specialized tests.
Laboratories Used by David Light, DC CFMP:
- David Light, DC CFMP selects lab facilities based on individual patient needs. He prioritizes labs with high accuracy and quality, as regular labs often miss functional issues that can be detected through specialized tests. These labs are used to identify functional problems in organ systems before they develop into diseases, not to diagnose or treat medical conditions.
Can I eat or drink before my blood is drawn?
- It's generally recommended to fast before having your blood drawn, especially for tests that measure glucose, cholesterol, or certain hormone levels. Fasting typically means no food or drink (except water) for 8-12 hours prior to the blood draw. Drinking water is encouraged, as staying hydrated can make the blood draw easier. However, some tests may not require fasting, so it's a good idea to check with the office beforehand.
Are the lab fees included in the Functional Medicine Program Initial Visit cost?
- Unfortunately, the cost of the Functional Medicine Program is not included, and our partner labs have their own separate fees. However, we ensure that only the most necessary tests are ordered to support your health and wellness.
